before and after

FINALLY!
i finally got my house in some sort of order...enough to take pictures anyway.
it's amazing how fast baby stuff has taken over my house.
here are the before and after pictures.

The outside

hopefully i'll have a fabulous after picture of the yard this summer. it doesn't look too bad in this picture, but it definitely needs some work. the house was vacant for over a year and obviously no one was taking care of the yard.

FAMILY ROOM
BEFORE
the carpet in this entire house was absolutely disgusting. i'm SO glad we got new carpet. when they pulled it up, there were huge, brown stains all over. the carpet guys also said that was the worst carpet they had ever seen. sick. the people before apparently had a dog that ran wild in the house.this paint color doesn't look so bad here, but it was kind of a nasty peachy brown. and they did a horrible job painting. i'm pretty sure they didn't tape anything off when they painted because it was all over and so sloppy.

AFTER

ahh....new carpet.
i LOVE the green paint i picked out. and it's called crocodile tears, ha. i love paint names. jd wasn't so sure about the color when i picked it out, but he was convinced once he saw it on the wall.

we finally got to use our new couch we bought back in may. we love it!

LIVING ROOM
BEFORE
more nasty, stained carpet

awful 90's blue paint. and again, paint all over the place.

AFTER
we decided to put in some tile inside the front door where people can take off their shoes and keep our new carpet nice and clean. jd did an awesome job on the tile!

my favorite color...brown. doesn't that look so much better? this room still needs a little work...like some furniture and something on the walls. my mom gave us her piano, but we have yet to move it. eventually we'll get some furniture too. (don't worry, we're not keeping the christmas tree year round. i finally took it down last week.)

KITCHEN
BEFORE
ugh, this red makes me feel sick. it was so bright and of course, horribly done. why didn't they paint above the cabinets? or the wall next to the pantry? OR why did they paint all over the counters, cabinets, and outlet covers? that red was a nightmare to get rid of.
i also wasn't a big fan of the color of the cabinets. at least the tile floor is decent.

AFTER
same brown as the living room

we (meaning i) decided to pain the cabinets green. i LOVE this green also. everyone thought i was nuts when i told them i was painting my cabinets green. i love the way they turned out though. we still need to put the handles on them and maybe do some antiquing on the fronts. we sure don't have as much time as we used to to work on the house.

this lovely, ancient thing is going. as soon as obama gives us our $8,000 tax credit, new stove and matching chairs for the table.

UPSTAIRS BATHROOM
i don't have a before for this because we just painted and decorated. simple. probably my favorite bathroom. (can you tell i'm on a green kick lately?)

MASTER BEDROOM
this also doesn't have any before pictures. it just got new carpet for now. i want to paint, but i'm not sure what to do. i like all my brown stuff, but i don't want to paint the walls brown. i was thinking maybe a gray, but i don't want to change all my bedding and everything. any suggestions?

MASTER BATHROOM
BEFORE

who puts carpet in a bathroom? it was horribly stained and just felt gross.

AFTER

jd put tile in the bathroom as well. with my help of course (34 weeks pregnant mind you) and our friend jordan. i am an excellent tile cutter, grout cleaner and supervisor.

so much better!

SOPHIE'S ROOM
BEFORE
i wish i would have got a picture before i ripped off the ugly animal/noah's ark border. just imagine it.

AFTER
pretty pink

sophie's room still isn't quite finished. i'll post more pictures when it's actually finished.

OFFICE
BEFORE
ok, so this room doesn't have an after picture, but the before is so funny. these blasted letters were so hard to get off the wall, it ripped off some of the sheet rock with it. now the wall needs a little patching before we can paint. maybe we'll have a boy in the meantime?
click on the pictures so you can see how great these walls are. "6oyz"...must have ran out of b's, but had an extra 6 lying around. forgot which direction the y goes, and used a sideways n for a z. don't even get me started on boyz, with a z...yuck. and freindz? if you are putting words on the wall in your child's room, you should probably spell them right. oh dear.

BASEMENT BATHROOM

AFTER

we also didn't do anything to this bathroom besides decorate. it's probably the nicest bathroom in the house. and i LOVE this shower curtain. thank you, target.

that concludes the tour of our house. i hope you enjoyed! there is also a bedroom and family room in the basement, but they are full of boxes i have yet to unpack, so no pictures. and there is a laundry room and bathroom off the family room. the toilet is not currently attached to the floor because it was leaking, so no pictures there either.

So this may be weird, but I clicked on your blog through Andrea's and just browsed through your before and after pictures. You've done a great job. The reason i am commenting is because I am wondering where you got your couch. I am looking for something just like that. If you wouldn't mind telling me? That'd be great. Thanks!

Kristi - the $8000 is the first time home buyer tax credit

Hilary - the cabinets weren't hard to paint at all. i used a small roller and sponge brushes. we took the finish off first so it would stick better. let me know if you have anymore questions!

Chelsea - i got the couch at rc willey, and i believe they still have it. it also comes in brown, which i wish i would have known!
