i'm back

i am back. not that i have really been anywhere, just here. i have sort of been slacking and putting off everything i possibly can such as my independent study class, cleaning the house, my capstone project, blogging, of course exercise and pretending like i have nothing to do! lazy, you say? of course not, i do feel that i deserve a bit of a break after going straight through fall, spring and summer semesters. and i'm trying not to feel too guilty. only 24 more days to go until it all starts up again. and 4 1/2 months until graduation. yuck.

Beee-ar Lake

we went to bear lake over the 24th with jd's family. it was surprisingly not crowded at all. it seemed as if we had the entire lake to ourselves. the water was 75* and perfectly smooth.

i am quite proud of myself. after 2 long years, i finally got up the courage to wakeboard...or at least try. the closest i ever came was getting in the water and putting the wakeboard on 2 years ago. then i got really nervous when the boat started to leave me there. for some reason i have this unexplained and totally irrational fear of water. i can't quite explain what it is. BUT...i finally tried it! it didn't exactly work, but at least i can say i gave it a good try...or 4. i didn't get up because the rope kept getting ripped out of my hands. after my hands were sufficiently ripped apart, i decided i better get back in the boat. this is quite an accomplishment for me! ask anyone in the fam!
maybe next time!

here i am putting the board on
i look like i'm concentrating really hard

just after the boat pulled away.

since i didn't actually get up i don't have any cool pictures, only splashes.

i'm pretty sure heidi won for the most air when she jumped the wake. she got about 4 feet and them came crashing down. she was a great sport though and even tried it again!

sara jumping the wake

i have some video of jd jumping the wake, but i can't ever seem to get videos to load on here

help, anyone?

we also started putting siding on the cabin while we were up there.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

doesn't it look great? siding is a lot more complicated to put on than i thought. i also thought it would go a lot faster. who knew?

the crew at work

we also wen to the montpelier carnival that consisted of about 10 people + carnies! yay! they had my favorite...the superslide! i wish they still did the kaysville carnival so we could sneak over there after hours and ride down. come on, are they really going to call the cops? of course not, they'd probably be arrested themselves for the various illegal activities that are sure to be taking place in their lovely little trailers they have parked right outside.

jd, kelsie, and i raced and jd totally won

then kelsie and i headed over to the hustla!

this was the best ride! it reminded me of the sandlot. it spins while it turns you in circles...not for anyone with a weak stomach. it went forward and then backward and just when we were about to stop, they carnie asked if we wanted to go again.....of course we do! we got a deal for our $4 ride! i was so dizzy when i got off, but definitely worth it.

i think i could have enjoyed it a little more had i not been thinking about how it had just been put together a few hours ago by delinquent, ex-con carnies and could fall apart at any moment hurling me into the darkness.

ouch

this is pat the protege. she has been in 5 accidents...none of which were my fault....until friday. the first 3 i wasn't even in the car. the first 4 she wasn't even moving. just minding her own business and WHAM! she keeps getting beat up! friday was my first accident. it was my fault. how did this happen? in 7 1/2 years i have had no accidents.

i'll tell you how it happened:

i decided to drive jd to his test on friday so he wouldn't get stressed out...so much for that! we were by the rec center in bountiful stopped at the light. the big van in front of me went, so i started going. jd said, "oh look, they're doing a play over there with little kids" so i looked. at that very same moment, a police car came roaring through the intersection to the left of us. the van saw it. i didn't see it. he stopped. i didn't stop...fast enough. i rear-ended him. what the? that never happens to me. i couldn't stop shaking! luckily he didn't call the cops and make jd late. and he was super nice about the whole thing. bummer dude.

luckily i hit his hitch which probably prevented a lot more damage than there could have been. hopefully just a new bumper and little pounding out of the hood will fix 'er up! she'll be as good as new...for the 5th time.

my bumper is a little dented out on the sides...it doesn't seem to fit very well

it doesn't look too bad in this picture, but it's there

just incase anyone was wondering...the policeman roaring through the intersection was responding to a bank robbery/stabbing. anyone else hear about that? the guy robbed the zions bank in bountiful and then took off. when the cops tried to pull him over, he led them on a chase which ended in him stabbing himself in the j&l garden parking lot. they cops had to break the window and tase him. he then went into cardiac arrest and they resuscitated him! WHY? why are we resuscitating criminals?

OAT is over!

jd took the optometry admissions test on friday and did fabulous! i am so proud! he even did well after the incident, or accident rather, on the way!
here is the official report
a little closer look will tell you that he got a 350 out of 400! that's the 90th percentile! wow! most schools accept an average of 320. yay! good job babe!
we are well on our way to optometry school. it's starting to feel more real. applications start august 1st. a few more months and we'll be outta here!

pineview

we went boating at pineview on saturday. we came home sore. me, because of a sunburn...jd, because of the death tube. this new tube was supposed to be so fun! katie told me it was 10 times scarier. that did it for me. no way i was getting on. after i saw katie, jd, and kelsie fall of there was no way i was getting on there! i thought someone was going to be dead when we went back to pick them up. no one really wanted to tube anymore after that....needless to say, the tube is going back to costco.
i don't think my legs have ever been this sunburned. i can't straighten them they are so swollen and i walk like an old lady. ouch.

fireworks + slip n slide + the buzz = my favorite day!

the 4th of july is my favorite holiday! i love it! we had the annual sleepover at my mom's house the night before complete with tents in the backyard, the campfire with smores and hot dogs, and new this year...the slip n slide! it was so much fun! we went to the breakfast at the datc in the morning, went to the parade, had dinner at grandma kitchen's and finished off the day with fireworks. i love fireworks! and i love july!
the breakfast was good as usual with all the old kaysville 2nd ward cooking. the parade seems to get worse and worse each year, but is a tradition that we can't seem to end! i love the kaysville fireworks! i think they are fabulous and they always do them to music. it makes me sad to think i may not be in kaysville for the 4th next year. i am very stuck on traditions.

i even did the slip n slide! yay me! we got the fabulous idea of putting the 2 slip n slides together! the blow up part in the middle was used as a jump! it was so fun!
brock decided to go down with his clothes on...the only ones he had.

rod. still in the game at 56! (happy birthday today!) my mom reminded him before he did this that he is 55 and not as young as the rest of us and to be careful!

b.f.f.s

i had a bittersweet goodbye tonight.

one of my very best friends, katie, is moving to oklahoma tomorrow. i feel quite bittersweet because i am going to miss her terribly, but so excited for her! katie and i have been friends since about 6th grade. i remember when she moved here from oklahoma. we have been through so much together....jr high and high school, being locker partners, traveling, relationships, etc...

here are some of my favorite things, or possibly little know facts, about katie:
*she loves stars just as much as i do
*we are both hopelessly romantic and love to listen to sappy songs
*she always knows exactly what i'm thinking
*she often hates my choice in clothing (i.e. the maude sweater), but we always have the same taste in shoes! me + katie + shoe shopping = $$$$
*she is always up for doing something fun and crazy...stealing big red bows off cars, drive-bys, phone calls, or making snow cones til my stomach hurts
*her crazy voices that only come around once in a while
*her strength, testimony, and willigness to serve the lord
*and just being there to talk to - she always gives great advice

to accompany this bittersweet and somewhat melancholy mood i have been in lately, i busted out my norah jones cd which i felt fit the occasion perfectly. i then proceeded to take the long way home on main street, roll the windows down, and sing along with norah like i actually have a voice worth listening to. it felt great!

i'm not sure why the melancholyness (is that a word?) lately...possibly the combination of saying goodbye, finishing a terribly sad and wonderful book all in one, a funeral, and leaving california.

we had a bbq with the old 2nd ward girls a few weeks ago to kind of say goodbye to kaite before she left. it was so fun to get everyone together! thanks jess!

stef and keaton, michelle, jess, me, and kaite

i had to include one of sara and brooklyn since they left before the last one

jess, stef, and me
ps.....can someone PLEASE tell me how to put pictures in a collage? i have tons of sf pictures to post and i'm too lazy to upload them on blogger one by one....
