san antonio...again

we went to san antonio again last week to look for a place to live.
wow. it was hot. it was 105 most days and only cooled down to about 90 at night.
things were a lot more brown this time. i guess its not normally quite this hot. the news said they normally have about 8 days over 100 and they've already had like 20 with no end in sight. ugh.
i wish we had some pictures of our hotel to better tell you why and we had 3 different rooms.
it reminded me of the friends where monica and chandler go away to vermont and keep changing rooms...i love that show!
when we opened the door to the first room and there were 3 other beds piled on top of the bed, along with bed frames and chairs. we hauled all our stuff back down to the desk and they gave us a new room...with only one bed.
the second room was worse. i pulled back the comforter and there was a bloody thing on the backside (which means it was touching the sheets). AND a blood stain on the mattress pad that i could see through the sheet. sick. i felt silly going back down to the desk, but got over it when we reminded ourselves we're PAYING to stay here. we already unpacked, so we had to pack up again and move.
the manager gave us a new room (with only one bed and relatively clean sheets). they called our room later to ask if we wanted to upgrade to a suite....no! the last thing we wanted to do was move again! so they credited us for the first night...woohoo!
the manager new us by name after that and asked us how everything was every time we saw him. awesome.
on our way into downtown.
we thought it would be cooled down enough by 8...ha.
we walked around for a little bit, found some ice cream and went back to our hotel.
the ice cream was literally dripping off the cone before you could eat it.
we found a place to live in the first 2 days.
that left us with 2 days of nothing. it was too hot to do anything outside, so anything we did pretty much involved driving in the air conditioning.
we drove up to austin for a few hours to check it out.
there was this cool river along the city. there were a lot of homeless people asking for money there.

here's the state capitol.
jd thought it was just a "cool building" until i reminded him what the capitol of texas is.

a cool church we passed.

we drove through new braunfels to check out schlitterbahn's (the waterpark) and found this beauty.
you'll have to click on it to make it bigger and really see all the crap. i wanted to get a better picture, but i had to hurry before the guy in the driveway saw me.
i love it.
yes, to the left of the picture in the glass case is jesus hanging from a cross...kind of creepy.
we decided to drive by the temple to kill some time.
it's pretty small, but it is really pretty.
it has really pretty stained glass and an awesome view.
it sits up on a hill and you can see out in every direction.
we only made it around the outside of the temple before it got too hot.

here is the view from the top of the hill.
i think if you look closer you can see downtown.

and i found this beaut at wal mart. they never fail me.
for you cakewrecks junkies, it is indeed a CCC (cupcake cake) made into a dog.
hmm...
saturday we tried to go to downtown one last time, but again...it was too hot.
we ate lunch and bagged it. we just got in the car a drove and enjoyed the cool air.
we drove south of the city to a really scary part where there is the historic mission concepcion.
it was cool, but of course, too hot to get out a tour.

that's about it for our trip to san antone.
we found an apartment that is pretty nice. it's no house (like we were hoping), but it will do. for some reason they don't want us to buy a house without having a job there...crazy.
it is a little bigger than we have now and it has 2 whole bathrooms! and windows! that's pretty much all my requirements.
the complex is nice and has 2 pools, tennis courts, sand volleyball (only to be used when it's not 100+ degrees outside), 2 work out rooms, and wi fi.
don't worry, we'll make room if you want to come visit!
