we {heart} arizona

i've had lots of questions about arizona, but i've been little preoccupied with my niece. have you seen her? can you blame me?

we left friday morning. we saw the grand canyon from the air and it was amazing! it was a nice flight and very quick. definitely do-able...a must on my list.

we went to pick up our rental car and moved our bags (at my request) to about 3 different cars before we picked one....not a great selection. we put our bags in a chevy aveo and got all settled and ready to back out when i realized it didn't have power anything. call me lazy, but how big of a pain is that?

i finally decided on a pt cruiser....yuck. i normally wouldn't pick that, i hate them, but it was the only decent thing with enough room and semi-big windows to see out of.

we got settled with our great friends, the tehero's, and went exploring. jd is the best vacation partner....he likes to explore, drive around, relax, stay up late, sleep in, and do whatever we want...we're on no strict schedule here!

we first decided to check out old town scottsdale. it was pretty interesting, old, southwest style town. we walked through all the little shops and did the touristy stuff. we tried on cowboy hats in one store...mine is the kenny chesney special.

this is old town scottsdale.

it was quaint.

we finished off the day with finding the school, exploring the area a little, and pizza and a movie with the tehero's.

saturday we went to the mesa temple to do a session. we had no idea it would be so busy. i think they said it was busiest temple outside utah. we ended up in an asl session and it was a really neat experience.

it's such a beautiful temple.

the rest of saturday was spent exploring the area around glendale. we have a fascination with driving around and looking at different neighborhoods and houses wherever we are. we wanted to sort of get an idea of what we liked in didn't like in case we come back.

monday was the interview. i should have taken a picture of jd before his interview...he looked awesome in his suit! the campus was beautiful and everyone was so friendly. we were quite impressed with the school and the plans they have for the optometry program. the only thing that is a bit of a disadvantage is no previous optometry program. so far, of all the health professions they have at midwestern, none of them have failed accreditation. they are building a brand new clinic and are going to teach the students about electrodiagnosis and prothetic eyes. there are only 2 other schools that do that, so it's pretty cool. you can also take elective spanish classes to learn some medical spanish. we both really liked their approach and would LOVE to be accepted there. our only complaint....it was not planned well and the whole process took WAY longer than it needed to. oh, and lunch was disgusting (my complaint). jd says the interview went well, but i guess it's hard to judge. we should here in the next 2-3 weeks. keep your fingers crossed!

we absolutely love it there and could definitely get used to life with warm weather, palm trees, a pool, and a nice house affordably priced. oh, and it was 80*....how could you not love that?

I hope things go well for JD. It's sounds like a good school. I'll keep my fingers crossed. My sister lives right by where you were. They LOVE it. I was down there in December and was dying at how affordable the houses were there. We looked at a lot of houses because my sister was trying to convince us to move. Good luck, keep me posted!!
